Meet our Chief Operations Officer, Shawn! Shawn’s first connection with homeless services came many years ago when he worked with NVHS CEO, Brandy Wallar. “It was life-altering,” he says, “and it really gave me a passion for supporting people experiencing homelessness.” In his time on staff, Shawn has enjoyed working with the various populations that we serve at New Visions. “One of the things I enjoy most is engaging with people and providing opportunities to get out of homelessness.”
Authentic, understanding, and non-judgmental are all words that describe Shawn and his interactions with both staff and guests at New Visions. Shawn’s work outside of the office also reflects his compassion and desire to help people. Shawn sits on the board of directors for 2 different nonprofits and has designed successful peer mentoring programs for both. “Mentorship can be really transformational for both the mentor and the mentee,” says Shawn, “people have a lot to give in spite of and sometimes even because of the obstacles they’ve overcome in life.”
Shawn and his family enjoy camping, canoeing, and fishing as well as hiking, hunting, and several different sports. “Basically anything that gets us outdoors and unplugged,” says Shawn. We have been incredibly blessed by his heart for serving and helping others, and we are so grateful to have him on our team!
