Meet Lucas! He has been a part of our New Visions maintenance team for about 3 years now,
but only officially in a staff role for a couple of months.
There is no typical day here for him as every day brings new challenges and projects. One day
you will find him putting a fresh coat of paint on our whole building and the next day he may be
delivering furniture for someone moving into a new home. One of the things he loves most about his job is learning new things about maintenance and repairs from Lynn, our Maintenance
Director.
Lucas describes himself as trustworthy, hard-working, and caring. He likes being someone that
people can come to whenever they just need to talk, whether it’s his coworkers or guests in the
shelter. “I like homeless services because I have a big heart when it comes to those in need,” he
says, “and it's taught me to never judge a book by its cover.”
He also has a special skill that is a huge help to all of us, Lucas is fluent in sign language. He
learned it because two of his siblings are deaf. He says this is his biggest thing to brag about, “it is something that I am proud of because it can often be another barrier when it comes to people in need.”
In his free time, Lucas enjoys watching sports, playing basketball and hanging out with family
and friends. He also likes steak tacos, the color blue and is the biggest Dr. Pepper drinker in the
world (or at least in our office… and that’s saying a lot since we have a lot of Dr. Pepper fans!)
We are so grateful to have Lucas on our team at New Visions!
