Destyni, who started out as an Intern in our Omaha office and joined our staff full-time as an Shelter Advocate and Chemical Dependency Counselor. Work has become a family affair for Destyni, who joins her sister, Dasiti (CB Shelter Director) on our staff.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others..” This quote exemplifies Destyni’s journey over the last several years as she has immersed herself in being a caretaker for her 3 special-needs children. Destyni has her Associates Degree in Applied Science – Chemical Dependency and is working towards her Bachelors Degree in Child Protection and Juvenile Justice and a Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling. Whether in her higher education pursuits or her daily work, Destyni’s focus is always on how she can help others. “If I can take a little bit of the stress off and help someone get through the day,” says Destyni, “I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.”
Resilient, creative, and calm, Destyni brings a unique skill-set to New Visions. Her role includes case management for shelter guests as well as hosting therapy/educational groups at our Council Bluffs campus. Her internship at our Omaha campus was centered around substance abuse education and assessments, bringing with her a lot of expertise and leadership in these areas to our Council Bluffs campus as well.
Even in her free time, Destyni strives to serve others by advocating for special needs children and running a local youth sports non-profit organization. Some of her favorite things in life include music, photography, and her community. More than anything, Destyni finds joy in time with family and in caring for others, and we’re so thankful that she is a part of our team at New Visions!
