David, a Navy Veteran who served from 1987-1990, arrived at New Visions Omaha in
November of 2023 after several bouts of financial struggles and severe PTSD that
eventually led to homelessness. Before coming to New Visions, David often found
himself lost in a cycle of recalling painful memories, which caused him to linger in the
shadows of his past. However, he has made significant strides in shifting his focus and
channeling that energy into more constructive pursuits. David's case manager has
witnessed his remarkable progress firsthand, saying, "David has diligently committed
himself to the necessary work, striving each day to create positive changes in his life."
For David and many other Veterans facing PTSD, acknowledging mental health
challenges is a particularly difficult realization. However, through a combination of
counseling sessions and his own dedicated efforts, he has gradually begun to find a
path toward healing and growth. "I'm truly grateful to have come here to receive the help
I needed," David says, reflecting on his transformative experience at New Visions
Omaha. David admits that prior to his arrival, he had no idea just how significant the
support of fellow Veterans would be. David currently reports feeling enveloped in a safe
and supportive environment that allows him to confront and process his complex
thoughts and emotions, an environment that has ultimately empowered him to take
positive steps forward in his life.
